Design Library: the natural home by hans blomquist

I was looking through some books over the weekend and realized that I needed to share one with you!  I picked up The Natural Home in a shop here locally one day and fell in love.  Of course the imagery is beautiful but it was the variety that really pulled me in.  There is a little something for most every taste and the mix of vintage is fantastic.   My favorite space that they explore and talk about is from Oliver Gustav.  His shop and is amazing.

Many of the images from this book have made their rounds on the web but I love to have a book to browse through at my leisure, I have more than enough according to my husband, but you can never under estimate the power of really turning those pages and the way your mind can wander.

A little Kelly green love..

It is funny how somethings seem to catch your eye.  Lately bits of color seem to be extremely attractive to me.  During the show in Atlanta I noticed a few trends around..  the first was Geodes in decor- everyone had them on display in art pieces, on the walls, on the table tops, all over.  Keep your eye out for them.  The other 2 things I saw a lot of was purple fabrics and linens, as well as rainbow detailing on linens.  Loved it all just like I am loving these pops of Kelly Green here!

Pops of color and Atlanta bound..

I am falling for this look - New Traditional at it's best!  A simple neutral backdrop with pops of color that can be changed out easily.

Things here are moving along quickly..  I have so many things that I would like to share and just not enough time to get them on the blog...  Today I am on my way to Atlanta for the show, this is my first time there so I am super excited!  I hope to see many of you there!  If you want to keep up with me and all of the latest trends I will be posting on Instagram during the show.  Check it out @ greigedesign or on Instagram.

megan megas at home..

So I know I have been changing it up a little around here with more and more chatting... but sometimes I think change is a good thing! (I hope you do too).  Anyway, I am going to chat this up because I simply love it.  I love the graphic pillow on the white sofa and I love the split wall with grey and creamy paint.  I love the lack of accessories and things.  This is pretty amazing.  I know it is not my home because my dog would knock that vase off of that little stool in about 5 minutes but I still love it.

This picture makes me wish I had not sold off my dining head chairs... humm.  I think I saw some yesterday and now I really want them back!

Kitchen pendants

So I am in the beginning design stages of my kitchen remodel.  Which I am super excited about but there are many very important decisions to make.  The sooner the better considering the lead time on some of these pieces!!  The first thing I had to figure out was my cabinet colors and the counters..  done there just need to get all of the pricing together (I will post those as soon as I make the final final decisions based on the cash).  But I have quickly moved onto lighting.  I love lighting!  So there is a small nook area that needs a chandelier and then we need to add pendants over the new island.

My first choice on the chandelier is below..  this one if from Arteriors but I might have to adjust considering the price... (oops I always go based on looks for myself first then try to figure out pricing- it can be easier that way sometimes but in this case it is not really going to work).  Aside from that isn't she beautiful!  Another choice is the hand made piece above from Cleveland Art.  I have several pieces from them in my house (they made the amazing lights in my master bath) and I love them as each is a unique work of art.

So I like this one for a pendant but I am not sure about cleaning the shade and it may not be quite right but it sure is cute!
This is one of my all time favorites from Cisco Brothers!  Love but it may be too small for there..

Another contender but it might be over done.  I have seen these in all kinds of kitchens...

I love this piece from Arteriors- new and fabulous!

Another Arteriors piece very similar to the Cisco piece but a bit larger...

This is fun and new from Arteriors too..
Then there is the large bling that I decided half way through this post might work over the table in the nook too...

Any suggestions?  I like the idea of mixing something a little fancy with something more industrial.  Lighting is the most visual accessory in a room next to artwork and I like to keep things interesting!

Master bedroom design

I had the recent pleasure of designing a wonderfully large master suite for one of my clients.  This is a fantastic space and her taste is really great with a mix of transitional pieces and modern accents.   I love spaces like this that allow for a great collected look even when the pieces are brought together at the same time.  It allows you to add in details and mix it up with vintage and new accessories.

Our inspiration came from some of Darryl Carters work which I love.

Finishing up..

Above is a grouping of fabrics and finishes that represent the way I typically start a project.  From here I will pull photos and ideas to see which direction to take it.  Once I have that done (sometimes it is the hardest part to find an image that conveys what I want the space to say) I work on the furniture layout and then onto the furnishings themselves.  The final step in my designing process is to put the fabrics and finishes on the proper pieces.  It takes a while to get from design to the finished product, but it is really nice to get there!

This project actually has a few more rooms but I did not like the way my photos looked so I had a limited selection!  If anyone knows of a good commercial photographer in Northern California I would love a good recommendation.

On a totally separate note my friend Molly Wood is having a One Kings Lane sale starting this morning!  Stop by and check out her goodies!
