An absolute dream inside and out...  I love the patina of the interior and exterior of the door.  The green makes it all come to life!

A big thank you to Leaf Magazine for publishing one of my photographs of the roses at Versailles in their most recent issue! I am very honored!

Also, look for a great giveaway here tomorrow!

Southern California Spring Garden Show

This week is the Spring Garden show at Crystal Court - South Coast Plaza.  I have not been in several years and had a chance to visit yesterday.  They had a great display at center court from Fiesta Floats of Pasadena.  It was amazing with several large butterfly and giant cone shaped containers filled with flowers.   I have not been to the Rose parade since I was a little girl so seeing the detailing on the pieces was pretty amazing.  It was about 2 stories tall.

Room and board had a small display- Love this long simple arrangement for the outdoor table.

I need to look this up because these were wood pieces that held water.  I want one of these in my new garden.

There was an abundance of miniature garden displays and Japanese Maples were everywhere.

There were several of these succulents- super cool!

We spied a cherry tree near the end, I now need to add this to my list of fruit trees.  I just have to see how well they grow in our area.

The variety of Orchids on display was also pretty amazing.  They are so beautiful, I wish I could figure out how to get them to bloom more than once when they are in my care...

The Garden show runs through the weekend with several events and lectures being held each day.  It was a fun morning visit but I suggest that you arrive early, it was very busy by 10:30 AM.

You can find more information here.

Garden dreaming By Invitation Only

I am a little late to the party but let's just say fashionably late.  I have spent the last few months gathering inspiration for what is the beginning of what will be one of our longest personal projects here at home.  We are laying out the garden and it's rooms.  Living in California we spend a great deal of time outside.  In the summer months I work outside to be around the kids and to just have the fresh air.  Our yard is pretty good size for the neighborhood that we are in so we have quite a bit of room to create.  I want a small sitting area just off of the dining room similar to the one pictured above, a sweet space to have tea and waste away Saturday mornings reading magazines and books.

Of course my husband and I also want a pool, never having one really makes us want it all the more.   These are both so beautiful.

I love the simple lines of these two pools nothing crazy just good clean fun!

I really love fresh flowers and Hydrangea are some of my favorites, we cannot seem to get Lilac to grow well here but it is so beautiful!  So near my sitting area we are planning for a large grouping of Hydrangea and some hedging to back it.

Of course we will have Wisteria along the structures near the house.

I have seen some really beautiful stone troughs that I have been dying to find a use for so we are looking for the perfect place to put a fountain.

We need some large hedges to block out a view from the street above which has been our biggest challenge!  These are fabulous!

These are my dream items (items that the husband is opposed to) I would love to have some ladies in my garden to keep me company and give us wonderful fresh eggs.

Finally I really need a pool house with ivy and Hydrangea, don't you think.  Oh and this is a great example of what I have asked for surrounding the pool,  cement pavers with grass running between.

I am excited to get a plan in place and see these ideas come to life!

Stop by to see what the other ladies have done too.

Gardens... and Spring...

I have spent the past few weeks dreaming about what Spring could bring and what I would like to see in our future garden.  I am meeting with our Landscape Architect late this week to see if we can plan out all of the fantastic things we want to do.  I adore the iron doors and windows in the first two images (the first one is Merci in Paris) I would love a pair where the window now is in my dining room, with Wisteria trailing above a seating area and a small fountain.  Hydrangea are my FAVORITE flower in the world and I need to have those in various locations so they are a must.  But the rest is pretty up in the air, we love fruit trees and have a few that were here when we arrived that we would like to keep.  There is to be a pool and hopefully a small pool house.  I cannot wait to get it all down on paper to see if it is even possible and then start tackling it piece by piece.

What are your favorite garden elements- any recommendations?
