this week I am loving..

It is funny there are some weeks when inspiration eludes me and then there are some where it is everywhere and I cannot keep it straight!  I am absolutely loving everything here!  I love vintage chairs and their time worn look, the lovely layers of grey from Atelier de Campagne, and Lauren at Pure Style Home's new textile line.
Do you ever find too much inspiration?  I like to take mine and store it away for a day when I am feeling a little out of sorts and use it to get me back on track!

Kate Spade at home

It is so fun to see creative people in their homes.  Kate Spade's home is really fun and whimsical.  I love the use of artwork which seems to make a statement in every space.  The colors are bold and inspiring.

What do you think?

Rich in detail

My goodness it has been quite a week already and it is only Wednesday!  I am loving the moldings in this space.  They are the  perfect inspiration for my Family room wood detailing that we are planning for next year.

Also, don't miss the latest issue of House of Fifty out now!

the art of layering

Layering in design is a true art form. It is mastered by a great stylist but in reality can we really live that way?  Is there a spot for my water glass or my collection of work papers?
How about you have you mastered the art of layering?  Does your home look like a shop?

On good days parts of mine do, but let's face it I live here and life is very busy!

It is all in the detail {by invitation}

Gustave Flaubert, the French writer best known for his novel Madame Bovary, is generally  attributed with the saying, "Le bon Dieu est dans le detail".

Over the years this expression has morphed and changed but the simple message remains the same...and that is… that whatever we do, should be done thoroughly and to the very best of our abilities. The details are what make all the difference...

In design the details make the space come together and in a home the details are what make the space special and what in the end is truly a home.  A home is just a shell waiting for life to fill it up.

In much the same way we need each other to make those details of our lives come together into something really wonderful.  All of that detail is so necessary to make us who we are.

Life is in the detail make them all special.

Grey stair risers

The wonderful things we can do with a little paint.  I love love these stairs!  I am not sure if the entire stair was once grey and has just worn away on the treads or not but is a very cool look.   This is also showing me how putting color on the details in a space instead of the walls can be a great way to go!

Dark Details..

I love the classic feeling of all of the dark trim and detailing in this space and how it carries through.

I have always been one to paint the walls not the trim with color.  I may need to change that idea out once and a while and see how it goes.

Grey in the entryway...

How yummy is all of that moulding and the bike is very sweet too!!

Sometimes I wish that I lived in a big city so that I could ride my bike around and then store it in my beautifully detailed entryway.. but then I come back to reality and I live here...

I came across both of these kitchens on Pinterest over the past few days and I love the sets of 3 windows above the sink.  They are so cool with their trim and definition!

A room with a view of Paris

When we stayed in Paris, I decided that staying in an apartment would be the way to go.  I had heard great things about the difference it could make in your trip.  Having a place to rest your head that was more of a home was very appealing to me.  I have been to Paris several times and my best trips were spent with a friend who lived there for a few years in an amazing apartment just steps from the Tuleries Gardens.  Both times I stayed with her I really felt like Paris could be home for me.  I knew the neighborhood and where I could eat comfortably as well as the great shopping that was near by.

This time I wanted to stay as close as possible to the neighborhood that I knew.  Maybe not my best choice.  I struggled to find an apartment that worked for 3 of us in the 1st Arr.

We settled in an apartment from A la Carte Paris in the 17th.  It was perfect for us, clean, comfortable and it had a cute little kitchen and a large bathroom.  The view was perfectly wonderful and the neighborhood divine.   Shopping was super close and quite good.  Even a small outdoor market several days a week, we were able to buy fresh food everyday and really enjoy all that Paris had to offer.

It made the trip and gave us the feeling of home!  I learned a thing or two about Paris and it's neighborhoods, there is more than one great place in the city and maybe I should give them all a try.
