austin harrelson....

my beloved magazines did it again...they introduced me to people i love. no matter how many times i may have looked at them, i constantly find things that excite me. this AM i was fumbling through looking for inspiration for my bedroom (wow does it ever need some help). you know how you always get caught up in this one article, well my eyes constantly go back to this house in domino's november 2006 issue...i have used it many times for inspiration for my clients...austin harrelson's florida home is so perfectly put together. its livable but classic...it constantly has me in awe b/c he has two small children and it looks so great...now i just wish he would share more of his work on his website...it's still under construction but his home is worth checking out.

that is how i found her....you know when you are "searching" for things to write about and you look everywhere to try and find inspiration- well, i was flipping thru house beautiful and i "googled" phoebe howard b/c of her selection of green paint. i am secretly embarrassed b/c i have never even heard of her, much less glanced her way to view her website. for the last hour i have been in shock b/c of the beautiful interiors "mrs. howard" designs. i keep looking over and over again at the images...trying to decide which ones i want to put on my blog....i couldn't narrow them down; i left many others i wanted to share...phoebe (i feel like i can call you that b/c i have spent so much time w/ you this last hour), girl you rock!

i can't believe i have had a blog this long and haven't written about sheila bridges. her interiors are just amazing. her designs are all over my office- either on my corkboard or found in my notebooks. the use of color in her design is just effortless...they are always right on. i can remember seeing the silhouette ottoman for the first time and i just flipped out. it is such a modern spin on a classical art tradition- LOVE!!

axel vervoordt

after a SUPER fun weekend spent w/ my best friends, i needed some down time to say the least!! i was flipping through my pile of magazines that arrived while i was gone and was reading an article on darryl carter (love him) and who inspires him. i decided to google axel vervoordt, who darryl quotes as loving for his "dexterity". i am amazed by the beauty on his website. the pictures are breathtaking. i too can understand why one would admire such work....

angie hranowsky...

i was so excited when i was flipping through a magazine and ran across angie hranowsky. i was even more shocked that she was a local designer. the interiors of her mother's home was so hip that i couldn't resist emailing her to find out more....angie couldn't have been any sweeter and agreed to do a little Q & A....

Q: I totally stumbled upon you while flipping thru house beautiful looking for something inspiring for a current project. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that you lived here! You are a breath of fresh air in a town full of traditional designers…what inspires your design style?
A: I would say the main things that inspire my design style are vintage/modern furniture and architecture and color. I have been a collector of vintage furniture for years. I am constantly seeking out interesting pieces and furniture designers that are more rare.

Q: You had a wonderful client to work for- your mother! Her house is so hip and with it…did you both come up with the feminine concept or did you just tell her to trust you!??
A: Doing my mom's house when she moved here was a great experience. We did talk first about what she wanted, feminine and comfortable. She was great and really followed my instincts. I would show her what I was doing for her approval, but she was pretty open about it all.

Q: I have to know more about the amazing chandelier that you painted for the master bedroom….i think I read that you did it yourself…please share!!
A: Yes, I got a glass chandelier and painted it myself with car paint. Getting paint to stick to glass even with priming it first was not easy. I loved the idea of a colored glass chandelier and decided I could get the look for a lot less and make it more interesting.

Q: I adore the hallway with the O & L paper…everything looks so effortless…are the lamp and console vintage?
A:Yes, the lamp and cabinet in the hall are vintage, although I had the cabinet refinished with a
fresh coat of white lacquer.
Q: What is your favorite local place to shop?
A: My favorite local place is Antiques in South Windermere in the South Windermere shopping center. I stop in there almost every week. There are really no places in town that sell a lot of vintage, but that antique store always has a good mix of furniture and accessories and I have been fortunate to stumble on some good finds. Ultimately I don't get a lot things in town. I am constantly searching and looking for good finds when I am traveling.

Q: What is the one design trend you can’t get enough of and what is one you hope to never see again??
A: I'm not sure it's a trend, but I can never get enough of turquoise. I love the color whether its paint, fabric or jewelry.
I don't like country... themes, decor, nothing country.
Thanks so much for taking time out angie for this interview! Keep up the great design!!

laura bohn's home...

so thank you "google image" (i am in love w/ that silly little thing). it takes me to the craziest places! have y'all used it before?? well, this is how i got to the NY social diary and ran across this article on laura bohn and her freaking fab home! so laura is a funny lady- in this article she describes how she got started in the design world and her clients (it seems like she totally rolls her eyes at them)! she says the only thing that they are worried about is impressing their friends- they aren't interested in bargains in the least. she said she had to teach one of her clients how to fold a towel! anyways- i love hearing other people's stories and seeing how they live...not to mention her home is amazing and use to be an old bank building in the village. how fab!!

he does have quite an eye....

this designer is best known for his role in a team of makeover guys, but his talent goes way beyond helping a poor soul update his apartment or bachelor pad. i was shocked at how awesome his interior design portfolio was...not b/c he isn't talented but i was use to seeing small renovations on tv shows vs. beautiful "unbudgeted" interiors!

triple threat (actually it's a lot more then that...)

laura kirar- don't mess w/ her! she is killing it in the design industry (better watch your back barbara). not only is she a super successful interior designer, she is most widely known for her killer furniture designs for baker. when her barrel lounge chair from mcguire was introduced, i carried around the picture and said that you could sum up my design style by this one piece of furniture. i still think it is amazing (i hate that it has knock off's of it). she is also one of the 3 designers for kallista- a high style plumbing division from kohler. you can add an ann sacks tile designer to her resume...and if that is not enough how about a lighting designer for boyd.

make my room a viceroy one (part one) ....

ok who doesn't adore the wearstler? so i thought it would be fun to take her widely popular "viceroy" hotel room and recreate some of its key components...(please bare w/ me- i am not very computer savvy and i don't know how to display a grouping of pictures.)
one of the key items in this room is the wallpaper. it's a foil and has a cane pattern appearance- couldn't find that one exactly but i thought that this trellis has the same feeling so i went with this one. oh, and did i mention that i am tweaking the room slightly...mainly b/c i like this chair and think it would look great w/ the wallpaper but still follows the idea of the Chippendale design and of course we will upholster the cushion in a slate grey linen. now, this dog lamp is different b/c its a foo dog (but kelly likes the foo) and it has a black shade but i think it works b/c it echos the black in the desk. oh i guess we need a desk- you will have to add the marble top, sorry! and we need the decorative hexagon plates. let's do this phone b/c after all, at your house you don't need a button for the front desk. ok, that should keep you busy for a little while. tomorrow, we will tackle the bedside of the room!

do i live in a bubble?

sometimes i feel like i live in this tiny bubble...like when i found steven gambrel- why have i not seen this guy's portfolio before yesterday? when i searched his site, i couldn't click the pictures fast enough. beautiful, colorful, interiors filled my computer screen. i got so excited and almost started writing my post at that very moment...but remembered that i was getting sick and that it was better to save it for today when i would feel less inspired to search for something "new" and "innovative". soooooooo, i love steven gambrel's interiors; he gracefully mixes traditional and modern (my cup of tea) and he is lucky enough to have a "town portfolio" and a "country portfolio". i also think that he is ahead of his time...using pops of orange and peacock blues in 2005. i am adding him to my "design heroes" b/c he makes me giddy and allows me to love what i do even more. i just get so excited when i discover a new designer (well new to me, i'm sure all of you design bloggers have known him for years). i feel like a little girl who just received her first cabbage patch kid. i just love what i do and am constantly inspired by the great designers in this industry!

* on a technical note, does anyone know how to post images that are on adobe flash player? there are so many beautiful interior shots that i want to share but i can't figure out how to get them? maybe that is the "user's" point...not to have them shared!

the adorable serial redecorator- amanda nisbet

this weekend i made an attempt to start cleaning my office of all of my "organized clutter"...i started w/ the best section, my magazine tear outs. i place all of my ripped pages in a manila folder to later be filed away in my inspiration binders. it was this huge pile where i ran across amanda nisbet, the actress turned self-trained new york decorator. i was so intrigued by the picture that i immediately got on my computer and googled her to see what her design looks like. amanda's design is anything from bland and is definitely not your typical calming "white" room. her general rules in design are making each home have a assuring color palette, choosing bold fabrics (she loves reverse toiles), and having big, comfortable upholstery mixed w/ crystal lamps or lucite tables. i found her interiors to be fun, daring, and as far from "white" as you can possibly be! amanda was most recently featured in O Home where she used some magnificent lucite bar stools and an awesome coral pink paint color against chocolate brown shelving...check out her website to see pics!
once i started googling, my office cleaning ceased and i am surrounded by torn magazine pages w/ no home and no attempt to be organized....what can i say, i get easily distracted!

reason # 437 of why i love jay jeffers...

FEARLESS...the man is not afraid! and for this, i confession my love (i don't think my husband will have a problem w/ me having a designer crush...i'm sure jay isn't into people like me!) i mean, that man can turn a room into a freakin' showcase in a sec. and his powerful design is just so daring yet sophisticated and never once would i describe his rooms as "understated". why don't these clients exist in c'town. not here, they are soooooooooooo traditional...people its okay to not have every room in your house how your great grandmother intended!
