Gardens... and Spring...

I have spent the past few weeks dreaming about what Spring could bring and what I would like to see in our future garden.  I am meeting with our Landscape Architect late this week to see if we can plan out all of the fantastic things we want to do.  I adore the iron doors and windows in the first two images (the first one is Merci in Paris) I would love a pair where the window now is in my dining room, with Wisteria trailing above a seating area and a small fountain.  Hydrangea are my FAVORITE flower in the world and I need to have those in various locations so they are a must.  But the rest is pretty up in the air, we love fruit trees and have a few that were here when we arrived that we would like to keep.  There is to be a pool and hopefully a small pool house.  I cannot wait to get it all down on paper to see if it is even possible and then start tackling it piece by piece.

What are your favorite garden elements- any recommendations?

Gorgeous transitional mix.. timeless

I am loving the mix in this house of rustic and traditional with a bit of vintage put in there!  So fun, it reminds me that we should design with what we love, to make a great mix of styles and to not be married to anything that would make the space anything but timeless.

There is so much going on this month I cannot wait until I have a moment to share some of my latest projects with you and all of the great things that are coming for this year!

Vintage doors

I love this use of vintage doors, what a great way to have them be functional and beautiful by mounting them on barn door style hardware.  Totally cool.  Not to mention the color... perfection.

I love the doors from Eleoquence below.. so so cool!
What do you think, do you like the true vintage mix that these doors give in a space?

Conservatory..

I am feeling a bit under the weather today so my bathroom details are going to have to wait a day or two.  But I will send you off for a wonderful weekend with this great image of a lovely conservatory.  So dreamy!
What do you have planned for the weekend?

It is all in the detail {by invitation}

Gustave Flaubert, the French writer best known for his novel Madame Bovary, is generally  attributed with the saying, "Le bon Dieu est dans le detail".

Over the years this expression has morphed and changed but the simple message remains the same...and that is… that whatever we do, should be done thoroughly and to the very best of our abilities. The details are what make all the difference...

In design the details make the space come together and in a home the details are what make the space special and what in the end is truly a home.  A home is just a shell waiting for life to fill it up.

In much the same way we need each other to make those details of our lives come together into something really wonderful.  All of that detail is so necessary to make us who we are.

Life is in the detail make them all special.

Dark Details..

I love the classic feeling of all of the dark trim and detailing in this space and how it carries through.

I have always been one to paint the walls not the trim with color.  I may need to change that idea out once and a while and see how it goes.

Grey Doors...

Lately I have been seriously considering painting some of my interior doors a light grey.
This is hard because my walls all have a color on them so I would definitely have to change that to a cleaner color a light creamy white or a slightly darker grey.  I just love this look and am completely afraid to commit to it..

What about you?  Do you have color on your doors?  Do you love it if you do?

Accented in black

The dark accents in this space make it just right I think... and I love the way the photos are taken from one room looking into another.

I hope you are having a great long weekend!!

Abstract inspiration

Some days you cannot place your finger on what exactly you love about a photo or a space but it is inspiring.  Some photos just make me think that life is full of so many layers and ideas that it is hard to separate them into any type of design thought.  Does that make any sense?  Often when I look at a photo of a space I can see the elements separately that make it up, but there are other times that I just cannot pinpoint what it is that makes me love it- I just do...

These two images are like that for me...

Shopping on La Cienega: Kristen Buckingham

The Entry door was my favorite inside and out.

Loved the pocket doors in black also- just a nice little surprise.

On my last visit to La Cienega I had the pleasure of visiting  the Kristen Buckingham showroom.  It was full of eye candy!  The exterior paint was my favorite and reminded me of being in Paris where each shop seems to have it's very own style.

Inside was like a treasure chest of mixed styles and colors!
